I live in Hawaii, so I am interested in learning about anything that has to do with the Hawaiian culture. Hooponopono is the Hawaiian practice of forgiveness and healing. I understand that when I am feeling a negative emotion such as anger or fear, I can use Hooponopono to replace that fear by saying four simple phrases. These phrases are I'm sorry, I love you, thank you and forgive me. This is something that would be very hard for me to do when I am angry and scared, but it is something that I should strive to do more. Hooponopono does not replace medical treatment or therapy. I should not expect a miracle and be relieved of all negative emotions, but I truly believe that I can feel more at peace with myself and my coworkers by using Hooponopono in stressful situations.I really like the concepts of unihipili, uhane and aumalua. Unihipili is the unconscious mind. Uhane is the conscious mind. Aumalua is the soul or divine intelligence. These are all parts of an individual person. When Hooponopono is used, then all of these parts of a person is balanced. This book motivates me to learn more about Hooponopono and become more balanced in my life. I want to learn how to develop these Hawaiian aspects of myself more/ I enjoy expanding my Hawaiian vocabulary, and I appreciate this information very much. I believe that a separate book could be written about each of these concepts. This book is missing stories of people who have used Hooponopono, but hopefully I can find that in another book or discover it for myself. This book motivates me to do more research on Hooponopono.

I have read many books on spiritually and this books has been more effective than any others. It is brief, simple, to the point, and transformative.

I thought the chapters on things like NLP, Quantum Physics etc would explain how the process worked and was excited when I saw them in the table of contents. Seemed disjointed and disconnected. Nor sure why they were added. I am going to try other books. The beginning of the book was great and I believe the process is powerful. Just that the rest of the book added nothing to deepen my understanding. Wouldn't recommend this book.

I’ve known about Ho’oponopono for over a year but never worked with it seriously. I recently did some healing work and this book dropped in my lap. I cannot recommend this book enough. It easily explains the process (if you want to call it that) simply and explains what happens on the quantum level. This helped make this a daily practice.

There are a lot of books on writing for television. A few of those books stand out as 'better than most'. Still, fewer books rise far above the others, but none reach the level of this one for writing a pilot.Creating a television pilot is one of the most challenging forms of writing. It is one of the most difficult forms of writing to do well. It differs from writing an episode for an ongoing series that has established characters, sets, etc. Writing a pilot is akin to taking a plunge from the high dive. One false move and things are going to end badly (and it's not the kind of thing that they can fix in post).For learning about writing a pilot the only thing better than this book is to find a mentor who has done it successfully. Even if you aren't writing a pilot the author shares tips on writing for television that every writer needs in their toolbelt. If you want to know how to write a pilot and you don't buy this book, then find yourself a mentor.

This books is geared toward writing television pilots and it is incredible. First it's something I wished I had read all those years ago back in college. It's incredibly insightful, very helpful, and teaches writing without making me feel like I'm stuck in a strict writing process.I love creating and have worked on over a dozen pilots in an effort to jump the start the old writing career, I can safely say that every one of those pilots will be getting needed TLC after reading The Hero Succeeds.Kam shows how to generate stories in what feels like a more natural way with emphasis on character wants within story beats. Usually when I read a screenwriting book I find myself disagreeing with the author certain issues, but I'm 300 pages in and I have found every piece of information Kam has written to be incredibly helpful.

There are plenty of terrific screenwriting books out there. But a terrific book on TV writing? There aren't many go-to tomes that are agreed upon classics.And maybe that's because the rise of Peak TV has been a relatively recent phenomenon.Writing a TV show in 2018 is really different than writing one in 2000. TV shows are regularly more sophisticated than most everything you see on the big screen. And, most books about TV writing, that I've encountered, focus on writing specs for existing shows. Very little attention has been paid to original TV pilots.That's why Kam's book is so helpful. Not only does she take you into the structure of a good drama pilot, she also takes you inside of comedy pilots as well--and streaming and cable options, too.As you work through the book, you'll learn how you can build a structure that can survive season after season (if that's what you want to do). But, more importantly, I think, you'll also learn the structure of an episode. How to put together the scenes to create an effective TV pilot.I really enjoyed this book and found it really helpful. If you're interested in not just writing TV but specifically creating your own original TV pilot, you need to check out this book.

This book finally pushed me to finally get an idea on paper into a script. From speaking on the importance of - and HOW to - research, working on grids, and putting everything on your script using her "Hero Succeeds" strategy, Miller knows how to speak on your level, understand how the writing world works, and makes it fun to read. This book isn't a "here's a formula and stick it into this script". She actually makes you think as a writer, emphasizing in every step you're not writing a story, you're writing about a CHARACTER who has a story.I became an instantly better writer because of this book, and finally finished a spec script because of this book.Personally, I think this book works best if you having a basic understanding of script writing (e.g. reading a book similar to "Save the Cat" first will get you the most of out this book). This book is great on its own, but I think knowing the basics while adding this to your arsenal would make you into a knock-out writer.High accolades to Ms. Kam Miller, I'm so thankful. Get this book if you want to be a better writer.

It's as if your kindly, intelligent friend were guiding you through the process. And what a helpful process it is, as Kam Miller shares her approach to developing a pilot concept and breaking a story. The latter she grounds in character events -- or story events stemming from your primary character -- which I find super valuable. They help to refine a clear and compelling pilot story and keep the most important element of any story, its protagonist, front and centre as an interesting character whose story we'll want to watch (and write). If you're looking for help with writing a TV pilot, simply buy this book.

My nephew has 4 kids, the oldest of which is in his last year of school. My nephew grew up an an inconsistent, undisciplined environment, and as a result, he never finished assignments, and therefore, never finished school. After he got married and had a child, he woke up with a start one morning with an urgent sobering thought. What an awesome and important job he had before him! He actually became a changed person at that moment and all of a sudden started devouring every book he could get hold of. He and his wife have used the techniques from Ezzo "On Becoming" books from birth, and the result is, there has never been a nicer set of kids. When they were little (3-8 ish), they visited for a week, and in all that time, I never saw a tear or heard a squabble, or even a discouraging word from or between the kids. They were very loving with their parents and had fun with them. I was praising them with their mother when they were getting ready to go and she said quietly to me "actually, there were 2 spankings upstairs during our stay". I couldn't imagine it. I have been giving Ezzo books for gifts since.

I’m a big fan of Babywise but have been disappointed with this book. It oversimplifies things and definitely uses examples of relatively compliant children. It doesn’t seem to take into account that there are definitely some strong-willed children out there (like mine) who don’t just say “yes mommy” because you’ve told them to. There are some good principles in here, but more spirited children will require strategies beyond what this book offers.

All of the books in this series helped me tremendously with parenting.

The TimeTrack.mdb database that the authors reference throughout this book is not available from the Safari publishing company website. A disk did not come with the book, either. Good luck testing out the code samples. Perhaps, at best, you can cobble it together using another sample databse.If anyone knows where to get the sample database for this book, please let me know! I e-mailed the publisher but did not receive a response. Thanks!

I ordered this manual and it was not apparent from any of the pics or editor's comments, etc. that this was written for the 2003 version of Access. I should have noticed the publishing date (my bad). I haven't gone thru the book yet as I have other books in this order to go thru also, so the content may be fine, just dated.

As far as I can tell, this text is full of useful programming information for working with Access but I have not used much of it. It presumed more knowledge on my part than I actually have. I was able to read over it and get the basic concepts for a fair amount but the actual ability to use the information has not developed. I got the information at the expense of instruction.The biggest problem is the lack of a disk with the examples. Supposedly, you can get the examples over the web but I most often do this type of stuff on the laptop from motel rooms in out of the way places with no or very limited access to the net. For me, that was an unworkable solution.Even if it had included a disk, I don't think I would have liked this text too much because of the explanations. As I mentioned before, they seem to assume a level of knowledge on my part that I do not yet possess. It almost seemed as if I needed to know how to program in VBA before I could learn to program in VBA.On the plus side, the screen shots are not generous in either quantity or size but they are definitely readable. This far surpasses the norm for most computer instruction books in my experience.Others with more experience may well get more out of this book than I did. I plan on keeping it around in the hope that I may grow into it but, as yet, its usefulness has been minimal.

On the Kindle you can change the font size, which is great for me since my eyes aren't that good. The problem is that the illustrations, which are extracts of programs, are all too small and I can't read them.

Great book for providing a comprehensive overview of the value-add of MS Access and some of the practical appliations for which it is used. I would reccomend to anyone that wants to start experimenting with the capabilities of Access.

This is an wonderful MS Access handbook. It includes practical examples on how to use vba and sql to get the most out of your Access app. You won't get bogged down in unnecessary details and analysis.

My wife,Debby, and I were at an Alliance Defense Fund conference at Sedona, AZ, having breakfast with other ADF supporters. The conversation turned to poverty and I started giving ideas from a book I was reading by a popular economist who hangs out with Bono and predicted an end to world poverty in 20 years if we just give a bit more, and in a smarter way, to poor countries. The older gentleman sitting next to me said, "That's completely wrong!" and started to explain how much America has given with such poor results.Of course, I'm not one to be put off, so I said (as the famous economist had said) that America hadn't really given nearly as much as was committed and as I started to explain, the gentleman more loudly said, "That's completely wrong!!" Then he spoke for about ten minutes, explaining how capitalism without a foundation of moral stability (such as the new Russia) almost always fails. I had to agree with that. Then he spoke about how just learning the rules of business isn't enough, how people who have their hearts changed by a relationship with Jesus do so much better in capitalism. I had to agree with that too.Till he was done talking, I'd completely refuted everything I'd previously said and was agreeing with him wholeheartedly, knowing how dopey that made me look. As he wound down, he looked at me and said, "Sorry I got so enthusiastic there, I've just written a book on the subject and am pretty excited about it."Debby and I laughed and laughed as we remembered the situation, as did the others at the table. Me just plodding along, trying to explain the situation to a world expert. Oh well, at least it's not boring being me.As I read the book written by my breakfast companion, Ken Eldred, I was amazed by both his background and the fundamental shift in world missions he predicts. He examines the model of traditional missionaries, looking at the high cost, the number of countries where they are not welcome and how there are often hard feelings by locals about rich foreigners living in their area with no visible means of support. I've struggled with these problems regarding traditional missions as well. He also notes the sense of diminishing returns from traditional missions.On the other hand, almost every country wants economic development. He postulates that businesses run by Christians can affect an incredible numbers of lives. These Kingdom businesses work toward a triple bottom line: profits and sustainability; local jobs and wealth creation; and advancing local church and building spiritual capital (honesty, service, excellence, respect, commitment, value, trust, loyalty and quality). These Kingdom businesses may be tiny one-person operations or huge companies, but this important trend could be one of the greatest mission endeavors ever. He outlines the many ways business people can be involved in this type of work. I'm excited about how I might join in this trend, in some capacity or another, and think anyone else thinking about these issues would benefit by reading this book.

This is an excellent book. I had to purchase it as a textbook for my master's degree class. I'm glad the instructor required this book. It was a very good and I enjoyed reading it.

For anyone and everyone especially if you love the Lord. You could feel his sincerity and see his transparency. This was a really great read and empowering.

Ken Eldred makes the clear the point that we are all in "full-time" ministry if we are serving Christ. The believer called to serve in the business realm has an incredibly high calling and responsibility to the Kingdom and a tremendous opportunity to glorify God that those who work inside a church do not. We are all called to serve Christ full-time no matter where he places us.

Jett, if you read the earlier books, is the bad ass older sister of Persephone Gosse, and daughter of Oriane Gosse (aka Mother Goose). Jett is a witch and a warrior. In the earlier books, Jett murdered her sister Seph in order to keep her from destroying the world, a decision which continues to haunt her.Jett’s book examines the fall-out from that choice, not just for her, but for the people she loved, specifically, the new bear shifter king, or bruin (I love Heather’s world building vocabulary!!!), Stephen.Blair explores themes of loyalty and trust, and how actions can be misinterpreted. Stephen and Jett are the focus of this book, but things in the fairy tale creature world are never simple. Stephen feels betrayed, and Jett’s heart is broken. She’s forced to confront her past, and recognize (as much as she wouldn’t like to) how it continues to influence her.People who have read the rest of the Toil and Trouble series will see characters they loved in the first books, Seph and Jack Frost make an appearance, as well as Tyr and Ana (who’s dark past is hinted at exquisitely in this one), and Carly and Styx.I am in awe of Blair’s world. Not only does she use stories from mythology (Herne and Loki), fairytales (and not just the familiar ones!), but also Native American stories. Jett and Stephen’s world on the shores of the Great Lakes in Minnesota, is as much a character as they are. I loved how interwoven the story was, and I was blown away at how Blair kept track of all the threads, weaving them into something beautiful.Blair managed to wrap-up Stephen and Jett’s story while leaving just enough loose ends to make me desperate for the next book, which will be about oldest Gosse sister, Ana.This book is five stars. It’s a fast read, not because it’s short, but because you won’t do anything else but read until it’s finished.

to actually be able to decipher what is true in them, you need to already have read several books (in which case, why are you now reading this book?). This doesn't mean this book is bad -- it's not. It stays out of the argument and only provides the argument, doing it's best to be unbiased. In doing so, it inevitably created a book where the contributors contradict eachother since there is no real referee. If there was a referee, this book would not be unbiased. Okay, with that in mind, I see three types of people who may be interested in reading this book.Type I: I'm uncertain about the debate and looking for knowledge. I may have some background, but I cannot tell what is fact and what is not yet when arguments on the topic arise.Type II: I'm looking for opposing viewpoints for research, but not to find out "truth" (for example, a school research project).Type III: I've read a lot of information about global warming already and I'm mostly aware of the issues for and against. I understand to a pretty good degree how the debate has developed in the last few years, both scientifically and politically.To Types I & II:This book cannot (should not) stand alone in your research, but it is a good starting point. If it does stand alone, then you'll be even more confused about what is legitimate and what isn't than when you started -- if you do this, you will know the arguments but cannot say what is fact and what isn't. Look carefully at arguments/motives. To give this topic a fair reading, you will need to commit a good amount of time to other research. You will also need to take the approach of Type III after you get a good information base. (You could actually skip to the Type III approach immediately, but then you cannot stand up to arguments once you've made up your mind.)To Type III:You may benefit by instead looking for answers to your specific questions and analysing the people behind the arguments rather than reading this book, which will afford nothing significantly new or profound insight into what is true. Do research by looking especially for people who work against their own interest and see what side they've come out on. (If a solar company executive says global warming is a fluke, you should probably take their opinion carefully since they are working against their interest. Likewise, if an oil company executive says global warming is real, then that lends them strong credibility since they are acting against their financial interest.) If you complete this type III approach and have a good knowledge base, I think you'll come out on the "correct side" (from my point of view).If you complete "Type III" and also read the book, you will probably spot some false claims and be wishing you could let everyone who reads this book know about them (but you cannot without sounding biased, which is why I refuse to say which side I'm on... :) ).I know I cannot really justify my disappointed about this book (I'm disappointed that it doesn't comment on what's true and what isn't), since otherwise it would just be labeled as another piece of propaganda and end up being wasted paper. If you intend to read this book, just keep in mind it is like reading articles by politicians -- what they say makes some sense, but are the basic arguments true to begin with? There are lies and poor logic scattered in this book, but sadly you won't find out who is lying or who is using bad logic without doing serious analysis. Don't look to this book to settle things, but look to it as a source of viewpoints only to start from. You probably won't really settle your opinion until you look at how people are responding for/against their interests on this topic.

"Opposing Viewpoints Series -- Global Warming" may be difficult reading but it is worth the effort! However, the book already needs an update on the latest developments in the debate!This book is where I started to read up on "Global Warming". It presents the data available, as of the end of 2005 (approx.) in a fair way and presents all the various views of the data, with excellent references.A summary would sound something like this: "Our world is showing some signs of warming temperatures. This warming seems to be, mostly, from man's activities. However, both of these points are debatable and the argument is not settled (as of 2006).The science presented is fairly good but in the time since publication, new evidence is pointing in new directions. Also, the old evidence had some problems. One of those problems was using different measurment technologies without acknowledging the differences properly. I have no idea why, in all parts of 'science', some folks keep claiming that we "know" more than is possible to know, but they do.I think the book should be for adults only, with, at the least, a little bit of science training. At first, science looks straightforward. However, anyone who has actually done scientific research can tell you that "objective" and acurate measurements and observations are not simple and extrapolation of the data into the future is always a questionable process.In this debate, the scientists have reached the stage of "not so simple".Read the book. It is a good book! But, be sure to read a bunch of more reacent material. Do not decide anything until you have seen the material available on all sides of this debate.

The unspoken premise of the book, that there are only two sides to the global warming issue, tends to oversimplify the issue. But for pete's sake, it really is a good idea to have a vigorous discussion, oversimplified or not. The book absorbs easily, and is short in length. Mostly the articles ("Viewpoints") are arranged with very opposing positions set back-to-back, and this certainly will get you thinking.Keep in mind that the publication date is 2006, therefore much more has been learned about this topic in the last 1-1/2 years. Much of the argumentation will sound very black-and-white as you read. Two of the articles sound like just plain arguing, though, and might be bypassed with little loss: Viewpoints number 3 and number 4 of chapter 2, which squabble about SUVs being evil vs. fine. All the rest of the articles are worth the time. Especially interesting are Viewpoints number 5 and number 6 of chapter 2, which are NOT opposing thoughts, but rather opine that the sun or the Earth's core radiation are the cause of the current climate warming (respectively). Then check out an article by none other than Senator John McCain! In Viewpoint number 4 of chapter 3, the good senator strongly proposes safe nuclear energy as an excellent solution to a warming climate. This, way ahead of his announced presidential run.After polishing off this very readable book, please do at least glance through the "Further Discussion," pp 192-3. Your English and social studies teachers will be very proud!
