This book has a lot of useful information about natural remedies and even how to make herbal tea yourself.Illnesses are listed in alphabetical order with recommended natural remedies.The Index has herbs etc..listed also in alphabetical order with page numbers for location.Dr. Duke does provide words of caution where he feels it is neccessary.I recommend this book. The price is very affordable and the book has an extensive list of natural remedies.This book is also very well organised.

My absolute go to medicinal plant book. Dr James Duke is a PhD ethnobotanist who not only dedicated decades of his life to studying medicinal plants all around the world, but he also has a farm where he raises plants for medicinal purposes. He puts to use his knowledge in his own life, practicing what he preaches. In this book Dr Duke tells you numerous remedies for many ailments ranging from asthma, the flu, colds, gout, arthritis, diarrhea, eczema and many others. He tells you the chemical compounds found in these plants and many anecdotal stories about using them from his decades of study, research and experimentation. I have personally used many of his recommendations to treat health problems for myself and family.As a side note, I have had the great privilege of working closely with numerous Native American tribes, and many of the remedies Dr Duke prescribes are also used by some of the Native Americans I know.

A great herbal reference book for intermediate to advanced herbal practitioners who want to include a more seasoned review of herbs from around the world, their cultural usage, and Dr. Duke's personal evaluation of their effectiveness. A must have herb book. I've purchased 5 so far for my friends. Highly recommended.

Learn about the properties of herbs from the person who did all of the research! This guy knows what he's talking about. Very easy to read. My first go-to when I need herbal info.

I used to have the paperback edition and decided to replace it with the newest (although still old) and hard cover one. I use this all the time, for anything and everything health related! This is my go-to natural treatment advice from an expert. I consult it whenever I am faced with any health question or problem. I absolutely love this book and cannot go without it!

Excellent books. They looked new with the exception of one that had a spine a little paler than the rest suggesting it was on a bookshelf exposed to sunlight. Otherwise lovely hardcover herbal reference book for a great price.

A great book and a classic for the shelves of all herbalists .... this book is a great starting place for creating an herbal solution to so many health issues.

This is a bit dated (from the 1990s) and is very cautious about certain herbs, but it is still a great and well-researched reference book. I keep this, along with a few more recent, as my go-to herbal references. Great book.

RIP Dr Duke... They don't make them like you anymore!This book is a good intro to James Duke, and a veritable treasure trove of herbal knowledge and lore.

I loved all the books in this series

received an ARC copy of this novel from Netgally in exchange for an honest review. All of the following are my own views and opinions.I love Janet Dailey. Some of her books are a hit and miss but some are just out of this world amazing. This is one of the out of the world books. Be warned the book is part of a series so you should read the other books first. It can be read alone but you miss out on some background on many of the characters.The beginning of the book was very fast paced full of adrenaline. Rose, our female lead, is on the run from the Mexican Cartel. She's amazingly tough, and self sufficient. She needs help sometimes but seems capible enough on her own. She ends up running toward her grandfather's land and runs into Tanner, our hero more then once. He blames the run in on her being a rustler. It gets complicated and alot of adventure ensures. In fact, the adventure gets in the way of alot of the romance; it feels like the fire between the characters took a back burner to the rest of the story. It's ok though, they still are amazing together. And the story makes up for it eventually.I really disliked Bull in this book (the hero of Texas Fierce). He took care of her grandfather's land (30 acres) when she was gone (she was a kid for that time too). He doesn't want to give it back because of water issues for his land. He essentially stole it. The entire situation is utter crap. Which I have to say is a great job on the author's part. It's supposed to annoy the reader. So well done. Bull is not a totatally bad guy but he is... agravating. Which is not surprising after his own book but annoying when he's not the main man. He's the type of guy you get the urge to bash over the head. A strong urge. In his book though you you either had the urge to hit him or kiss him. Interesting what happens when he's not the love interest. Unfortunately, he's not the only character you get the urge to hit so be warned.Again the romance between Tanner and Rose feel like a background story but overall the book was very well written and worth the read. The book has alot of action and drama. So much drama. Lovers of Janet Daily will not be disappointed and should definitely get this book.

Some times I feel like I get stuck in a reading rut and every other book is the same recycled plot, cliched scenarios and similar characters with different names. It's nice to pick up book and get a break from all that. Reading Texas Free was a nice break from that endless loop.The story is a bit more cut and dry then I'm used too. This doesn't have any flowery romance and is low on heartwarming one liners between the MCs but I felt their connection and I wanted both Tanner and Rose to have their happily ever after in the end. In the long run, I guess this did delivery what it promised, two people finding love.I'm not sure this would be a hit for everyone but I liked the change of pace (aside from the long winded descriptive scenery) this was a good read. Rose did really have the worst of luck and the treatment she received by the horrible men she encounters throughout the book was both dispicable and disheartening. I get it was different times (the story takes place in 1985) but it made me wonder if anything has really changed since then.Quick Summary:Rose has made it back to Texas, ready to claim the plot of land her grandfather died protecting. But she's been gone for 12 years and getting back her rightful inheritance is blocked by men convinced they know better.She crosses paths with Tanner, an undercover agent working to catch some rustlers in the area. Tanner doesn't know if Rose is friend or foe, she's mysterious and tight lipped and just happened to return home at the same time cattle go missing.With the cartel on her tail, a battle for her land ongoing with two sides pulling her in difference directions, Rose and Tanner manage to connect on a level neither one expected. Each one has scars and hurts that have kept them from moving on but when they come together, the future doesn't look so desolate.Would I recommend?I liked the old time feel to it but I'm not sure this is something I would re-read again. The "I love you" scene was so lackluster that I felt a be deflated after reading this all the way through with that being the reward. I also wasn't really feeling the loose ends that were Ferg and his slimy rodent of a son, Gern. I wish the epilogue would have mentioned what happened to them.* * * ARC provided for an honest review * * ***I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. This was one of three books I purchased for our pastor as he and his family were moving to Seattle. They are loving it.

we haven't tried any of these hikes yet but they all sound great and within easy reach for a weekend afternoon without having to get in the car to drive far!

Very easy to read and thorough. Lots of great little walks all the way up to some actual real hikes.

Great variety of hikes in the Seattle area. The descriptions, rankings and directions to the trailheads are easy to follow and there are excellent choices in varied terrains.

This guide is useful - bus routes, weather tips, time and difficulty of each walk given. If you are only going to buy one walking guide to Seattle, this is the one.

This guide to hikes in and around Seattle presents detailed information about hikes that are fun for families, people just starting to explore Seattle away from the usual tourist sites, and people just starting to get active again or who have mild physical limitations. That doesn't mean that these hikes skimp in any way on excitement, scenery or opportunities for discovery. They are just easy and fairly short trails or walks. Information is provided if you want to extend the hike or try out a more difficult hike in the same area, but the main focus is on the title hikes. These hikes range from a quick walk in nature to urban locations that will take you away from the bustle and noise, or will let you meander right through the excitement of this Northwest jewel of a city. I have hiked almost all of the hikes in the book, and I found the book to be highly accurate and very helpful in maps, locating parking, trail heads and the best times to wander down the trail.
