In this book Dr. Levy works to produce an understanding of the spirit of the Masorete, an exposition of nuance in editing the Torah.I at first found this to be so much of a specialized focus, it blinded me to what was important: This lays groundwork for anyone who is willing to go beyond the face image of the Torah text - to the part of the real story. If it were possible there would be three books I would advise any student of the Torah text to sit beside this book, The facimile edition of Codex Leningradensis, Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia, and Paul Kahle's, The Cairo Geniza a person could get a fairly complete picture of the likely editing history of the Torah. With these at hand the road to understanding becomes a lot less 'bumpy' - Along with one other book for reference, the so-called Biblia Hebraica 'Leningradensia'- (which is a perfect modern day example of editing and keeping the Torah according to what is considered the proper grammatical structure. IMHO, that version is a modern day case of the 'masoretes' editing the Torah again) Dr. Levy's book fills in information that would otherwise be only found by chance for someone such as myself who is unable to travel to all the centers where these documents are available for study to researchers. This is a soundly written and presented book. If you are into the research of the Torah text, do get this book.

The title of this work by Professoe Levy might make one beleive that it deals with correcting the content of the Torah. In fact this is not correct. The Maimonidean 8th Principle of Faith relates to the veracity of the Torah. It is commonly misunderstood to mean that the Torah text thatis used today is "letter for letter" the same text as was found in the original. This was never the intent of Maimonides as the rabbis of the Talmud clearly stated that we are no longer experts in spelling of all the words (plene and deficient) in the Torah text. Rather the principle relates to the textual integrity of the Pentateuch in that the entire contents is Divine in origin. Professoe Levy's book does a wonderful job of demonstrating some of the historical issues that surrounded the (fixation) Pentateuch as we have it. A major defficiency is the use of transliterated text to the exclusion of using Hebrew characters. A better method would have included a Hebrew font with an transliterated text side by side or in a footnote. Thus the neophyte and the reader who is more well versed in the Hebrew would oth be able to read the text without unneccessary effort.

Since the nineteeenth century, the absolute integrity of the text of the Pentateuch as the letter-for -letter accurate revelatory message of the Divine to Moses on Mount Sinai has been an article of faith for Orthodox Judaism. Prof. Levy shows with meticulous scholarship that from early Rabbinic times onwards, through the Middle Ages and even into more modern times many rabbinic scholars acknowledged and discussed the variations in the Masoretic and other texts of the 5 Books ( particularly in the context of the accuracy of the Scrolls used in synagogue). What was commonplace discussion in early times turned into sensation in our own times; what was never at issue turned into heresy, and, conversely, a view that was never espoused turned into an article of faith. The book is a superbly documented window onto the history of Judaism, and on to the history of the transmission of texts, with restrained but pointed relevance to some contemporary causes celebre - eg Bible Codes, whose basic premise this books elegantly demolishes. Gave this book as a gift, along with a piece of Roseville pottery, to a dear friend. She loves the book -- it has lots of information for someone just starting out collecting. Lovely pictures for the most part. There are so many books about Roseville that it would be great to buy them all but this one is good for the price; I didn't get it to give her actual values for my gift, and the book is a bit old so prices provided are not current. But it you like to admire lovely works of pottery, this is a lovely coffee table book.

If you are interested in Roseville Pottery this series of books can give you the information you need to review selections for consideration. Dollar values are included with great pictures. Easy to find items. You really need the complete series to evaluate the majority of pieces you may find.

I really didn't get much out of this book that I didn't already find by doing different internet searches but it was a little helpful.

I would rather have a more current edition of this book or the material in it but it was useful for my purpose.

Mr. Mitchell writes from first-hand experience and observations of current events in the Middle East as well as personal interviews with many of the people involved. His narratives are very informative and he has the ability to hold the readers' attention. If you need encouragement to believe that God is in control of world events, this book is a good one to read, and I recommend it to anyone who is searching for understanding.

Chris Mitchell lives what he writes. He includes a bit of everything from ancient Biblical history to recent history to current events to Biblical prophecy and ties them all together. He has some wonderful and uplifting chapters on the power of prayer and evangelism in these last days. This book is not a downer on the perils of the end times, but rather a personal account of God's word being fulfilled.

We just got back from a trip to Israel! To read about places we just visited was awesome. Like Mr. Mitchell said, "to read the Bible it is in black and white, to visit Israel and then read the Bible it is in color! I would recommend every believer and non-believer to read this book!

I found this book to be the most informative book on world events and the movement of God among the world .We hear of the worst from the media but the massive conversion taking place in this same part of the world . The author paints a clear picture of whats going on behind the scenes and brings hope to the reader that God and God alone is in control look up folks for your redemption draws nigh so come Lord Jesus.

Author Mitchell beautifully "plants" you in Jerusalem as history unfolds before he & his family's eyes. Mitchell is a man of faith answering the call of God to record these turbulent times, and counts it a blessing to do so.

This book is very informative, and really helps in understanding the middle east, people and different factions involved in theunrest and wars going on. I would highly recommend it to everyone interested in the Middle East and the times we are living in.

After reading , I didn't realize how close we are to the end times. for those who know the end of the story it's an eye opener. I pray for our leaders in Washington and pray for a spiritual revival with our leaders
